The document summarizes three studies that aim to improve the quality of doctoral dissertation literature reviews in education research. The first study replicates and examines the reliability of the Boote & Beile Literature Review Scoring Rubric by applying it to literature reviews in Instructional Technology dissertations. The second study examines the content validity of the rubric. The third study analyzes how literature review skills are taught in education research textbooks by examining textbook content against criteria in the rubric. The studies seek to provide more evidence for using the scoring rubric, understand what skills students are being taught, and identify ways to improve preparation of future education scholars.
